Finding older versions of the Raspbian operating system can be tricky. However, on this page, you can download the Raspbian Buster, Stretch, Jessie, and Wheezy versions on this page.

Different versions of Raspberry Pi OS
Newer versions of Raspberry Pi OS are provided in a couple of different flavors. You can download the version of the operating system that best suits your needs.

Raspberry Pi OS Lite
Raspberry Pi OS Lite is a heavily stripped-back version of the operating system.
This version of Raspberry Pi OS only features the terminal and a small selection of packages, making it perfect for headless projects such as our Volumio project.
Raspberry Pi OS Desktop
This desktop version is a more full-featured version of the operating system.
This version of Raspberry Pi OS features the desktop interface but excludes various packages that aren’t needed if you are not using the Pi as a desktop computer.
Raspberry Pi OS Desktop Full
The Desktop Full version of Raspberry Pi OS contains the most pre-installed packages.
This version of the operating system comes with all of the Raspberry Pi Foundations’ recommended packages pre-installed.
This release of operating system is more extensive and is most useful when you are using the Raspberry Pi as a full desktop and want to utilize software such as Scratch.
Download Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm
Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm is the sixth release and is built upon Debian Bookworm.
The operating system has a few improvements, such as having NetworkManger handle the network configuration rather than the older methods that used dhcpcd. It also uses newer display technology, Wayland, rather than X11. Plus, there are a vast number of other changes. For more information, check out the official announcement.
We recommend installing Bookworm as most of our tutorials are built assuming you are using the latest version of the Raspberry Pi operating system.

Download Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye
Raspberry Pi OS Bullseye is the fifth release and is based open Debian Bullseye.
The Bullseye release of Raspberry Pi OS brought a wealth of changes to its available packages and the underlying functionality of the operating system.
One of the most significant changes with this release for the Raspberry Pi is the new video driver. This video driver, being open source, should lead to better software implementations in the long run.
Like previous releases of the operating system, it still retains support for all currently released versions of the Raspberry Pi.

Download Raspbian Buster
Raspbian Buster is the fourth version of the Raspbian operating system and is based on Debian Buster.
Buster brought several improvements to Raspbian, with access to much newer packages as well as improved security.
The Raspbian Buster downloads below are the latest available versions that were provided on the 11th of January, 2021.
Raspbian Buster has support for all currently released versions of the Raspberry Pi.

Download Raspbian Stretch
Raspbian Stretch is the third release of the Raspbian operating system and is based on the Debian version of the same name.
The most significant user-facing change that Stretch introduced to Raspbian is to swap the way audio is handled over Bluetooth.
Raspbian Stretch has support for the Raspberry Pi 1, 1+, 2, 3, 3+, and the Zero W. Do not use this build if you want to use the Raspberry Pi 4.

Download Raspbian Jessie
Raspbian Jessie is the second release of the Raspbian operating system and is built off of Debian Jessie.
The Jessie update for Raspbian brought with it a wealth of changes. This release significantly improved the desktop GUI of Raspbian as well as greatly improving the performance and flexibility of the OS.
Raspbian Jessie supports the Raspberry Pi 1, 1+, 2, 3, and the Zero W. Do not download this release if you want to use the Raspberry Pi 3+ or 4.

Raspbian Wheezy is the first release of the Raspbian operating system and is built off of Debian Wheezy.
Raspbian was the very first operating system built purely for the Raspberry Pi and is officially backed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
This release supports the Raspberry Pi 1, 1+, and 2. Do not use Raspbian Wheezy if you want to use the Raspberry Pi 3, 3+, 4, or Zero W.
